Alexander Holden


Associate Professor Alexander Holden (BDS LLM MDPH MComDent PhD MRACDS FACLM FCGDent) completed his undergraduate dental degree at The University of Sheffield (UK) and then completed further four degrees in law, dental public health, community dentistry and research from the UK (University of Sheffield and University of Northumbria), Australia (University of Sydney) and New Zealand (University of Otago). Before moving to Sydney in 2015, Alexander worked clinically in private and public practice in the North of England, holding a special interest in conscious sedation and the use of hypnosis in dentistry.

Alexander holds specialist registration with the Dental Board of Australia in Public Health (Community) Dentistry and is internationally recognised for his work on oral health systems, dental ethics and healthcare professionalism. In Australia, he has worked within the private, public and academic sectors and currently holds senior academic and public health positions, alongside engaging with dento-legal and public health consultancy work.

Alexander is currently the Head of Specialist Services at Sydney Dental Hospital and Oral Health Services where he manages adverse and integrated portfolio of specialised departments offering cutting-edge care. The departments within the portfolio contain conventional specialist services such as prosthodontics and oral medicine, alongside more holistic care such as social work.

Alexander holds appointments as a Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Sydney School of Dentistry where he is the Head of Subject Area for Professional Practice, and is an Associate Professor (status only) at the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry. Alongside his clinical and academic expertise, Alexander is also a Board Director for the Australian Dental Association NSW Branch, the Australasian College of Legal Medicine and the charity Filling the Gap. He is an Associate Editor of the prestigious Journal of Bioethical Inquiry and has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications.

Alexander is a Fellow by examination of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine and the College of General Dentistry, as well as a member in specialist practice (Dental Public Health) with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Dr Daniel Selim


Dr Daniel Selim graduated as a Dental Surgeon in 2009 before training as an Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist at the Brisbane Dental Hospital (University of Queensland). His training included rotations at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, St Vincent’s Private Hospital, and Holy Spirit Northside hospital, as well as rotations to several private radiology practices in Brisbane and Perth. He is currently the only registered Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist based in the state of NSW. Dr Selim is staff specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Radiologist at the Sydney Dental Hospital; and works privately as an OMF Radiologist at a comprehensive medical imaging practice with many branches across Sydney.

Dr Selim is an examiner for the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology program. He is involved in the teaching of OMF Radiology registrars at the University of Queensland.

He is on the editorial board for Clinical Oral Implants Research (COIR).

Dr Selim is on the NSW/ACT regional committee for the Royal Australiasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS), and is a Member of the college in Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology (MRACDS DMFR).
